Where can I see a Vanguard 15?

Canandiagua Yacht Club!  Come visit our fleet on Sunday afternoons from later May through early October.  The local distributor is German Brothers Marina - contact Steve Schriner there.   German Brothers has been very helpful in working with our fleet to obtain boats and support from Vanguard.

How much are these boats to buy? Are they available used?

The contact German Brothers for price information.  Current retail price for a new boat with sails included is about $6,900.  Usually at the end of the season there are some rather good deals on both new boats and sometimes "used one regatta" event boats.  Used boats are also available in the $2000 to $5000 range – see the class organization link below.

What is the optimal weight range for racing?

The optimal helm + crew range for racing is around 270 lbs to 330 lbs. This is just a guide, however. It can be single-handed, or can accommodate 3 or even 4 adults comfortably (the cockpit is large, no traveler or centerboard trunk).

Are there any fleets nearby?

There are no “close” fleets at this time. There are many fleets down the east and west coasts and in the Midwest, but slow diffusion “inland”. There are some V15s located at Cornell and Hobart colleges, and a fleet in Cleveland, Ohio

What racing activity would there be at CYC?

The most fun way to race V15s is in an “intercollegiate short course” format. In this way, 4 to 5 races 20 minute races are run instead of 2 long races. For 2006 the fleet plans to race Sunday afternoons, although evening racing may be arranged as well.
